The Coney Island YMCA is seeking a Youth Coach who will be responsible for leading a group or team of children/teens in a designated sport and progressive skill development in a designated sport for the Teen Center: Saturday Night Lights Teen program. The Youth Coach will promote the enjoyment of sport while improving physical competence, developing confidence, teaching healthy competition and skill development. Teen Center: Saturday Night Lights Teen program operates on Saturday evenings. **Key Responsibilities:*** Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities, and ensuring spaces are clean and supplies are well maintained.* Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.* Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives, goals, and logistics.* Schedule team practices and games during Saturday Night Lights Teen Center hours in collaboration with Teen Advisors.* Create written plans for all practices that are age-appropriate and progressive.* Provide supervision of the players to ensure safety and engagement.* Modify and adapt coaching style to meet the needs of the participants.* Teach rules, fundamentals and enhance basic skills. Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship over winning and the outcome of the game.* Encourage a lifetime of participation in sports and physical activity.* Communicate with parents/guardians regarding schedules, registration, and the progress of their child/teen.* Communicate with parents/guardians about additional YMCA opportunities that can benefit them and/or their child/teen.* Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe, and in proper working condition. This includes conducting scheduled equipment safety checks.* Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.* When applicable, provide direction to volunteers or Teen Advisors who support the program.* Inform the Manager on Duty (MOD) regarding any incident reports that need to be filled out.* Keep a safe and clean activity space.* Adhere to all Saturday Night Lights funding expectations and requirements.* Must obtain the YMCA Coaching 101 Training certificate within 90 days of hire.* Must obtain the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within 30 days of hire.* Must obtain the Child Abuse Prevention Training certificate within 30 days of hire.* Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events, as appropriate.### Employee BenefitsWe believe strong communities start with strong, healthy and connected staff.
