Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Part-Time Chess Instructor at the Greenpoint/Brooklyn location to provide engaging, safe chess lessons for children and teens. You will plan progressive sessions, supervise participants, and maintain a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages growth.

Responsibilities include communicating with parents about progress, adapting plans for diverse learners, and coordinating with the Supervisor to promote program participation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's in Fine Arts preferred.
• Minimum of one year teaching chess to children/teens in a structured setting.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals, openings, and middle-game tactics.

Responsibilities

• Develop age-appropriate and progressive chess lessons for each session.
• Supervise participants in line with YMCA program standards.
• Modify lesson plans to meet diverse participant needs and abilities.
• Communicate progress to parents/guardians and promote additional YMCA opportunities.
• Set up and break down chess boards, pieces, and clocks; ensure space is clean.
