Abraxas Youth and Family Services in Canon City, CO is seeking a compassionate Youth Care Worker for a part-time role. No experience required; paid training provided. You will help adolescent males in programming using behavioral management principles and work closely with the team.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years human service experience, or 60 college credits.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pass physical and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Overtime flexibility as required.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the daily activities of adolescent males in programming using acceptable behavioral management principles.
  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, and serve as a role model to clients while interacting in a therapeutic and meaningful manner.
  • Observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately, as dictated by policy and individual client treatment plan.
  • Documents client treatment interventions, behavior, and progress.
  • Reports significant client changes in behavior, attitude, and/or physical condition to appropriate personnel while evaluating client behavioral and emotional issues.
  • Collaborates with the educational team and client’s Mental Health Therapist to implement the individualized treatment plan.
  • Implements the daily activity schedule and coordinate client activities, such as Family Night, Structured Recreation, etc.
  • Facilitates and documents psycho-educational groups via standardized curricula.
  • Conducts security head counts and checks; performs overnight security checks when on overnight shift.
  • Completes security calls to Night Supervisor when working on overnight shift.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will direct the daily activities of adolescent males in programming utilizing acceptable behavioral management principles. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.

Your responsibilities may includes:

  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, and serve as a role model to clients while interacting in a therapeutic and meaningful manner.
  • Observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately, as dictated by policy and individual client treatment plan.
  • Documents client treatment interventions, behavior, and progress.
  • Reports significant client changes in behavior, attitude, and/or physical condition to appropriate personnel while consistently evaluating client behavioral and emotional issues.
  • Collaborates with the educational team and client’s Mental Health Therapist to implement the individualized treatment plan.
  • Implements the daily activity schedule and structure and coordinate client activities, such as Family Night, Structured Recreation, etc.
  • Facilitates and documents various psycho-educational groups via standardized curricula.
  • Conducts scheduled and random head counts to provide effective people security.
  • Conducts outside building security checks when working on overnight shift.
  • Completes security calls to Night Supervisor when working on overnight shift.
  • Supports the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills
