Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky seeks a Youth Worker I at the West Liberty location to supervise and support at-risk youth within the Department of Juvenile Justice. The role is full-time, with shift premiums and OT eligibility, requiring a high school diploma and the ability to complete the DJJ Training Academy.

Excellent custodial supervision and emergency response skills are essential, as well as a valid driver's license and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate is required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment.
• Must successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains custody and control of juveniles in a custodial security setting.
• Supervises and monitors DJJ juveniles at the beginning level and assists in interpersonal skill development.
• Escorts juveniles between institutional areas.
• Takes action during emergencies to prevent escapes and suppress disorder.
• Maintains shift logs and notifies supervisors of issues; assists with complaint procedures.
• Performs counts or wellness checks for juveniles.
• Monitors individuals entering and leaving institutional grounds.
• Maintains required physical restraint technique certifications per DJJ policies.
• Provides support services for routine maintenance; attends staff meetings and trainings.
