Job summary

Norwalk Parks & Recreation is hiring Youth Basketball Referees, ages 14 and older, for the upcoming basketball season. Whether you have officiating experience or are looking for your first opportunity to referee, we'd love to hear from you! Officiate games and help create a fun, safe, and fair experience for young athletes.

Schedule: Season November–February, Monday–Friday evenings at City State Bank Norwalk Fieldhouse, 2011 E. 18th Street, Norwalk. Pay: $15 per hour officiated.

Qualifications

  • At least 14 years old.
  • No officiating experience required; training provided.
  • Ability to explain and apply league rules during games.
  • Good communication with players, coaches and staff.
  • Reliable and able to work evenings during the season.

Norwalk Parks & Recreation is hiring Youth Basketball Referees, ages 14 and older, for the upcoming basketball season. Whether you have officiating experience or are looking for your first opportunity to referee, we'd love to hear from you!


Youth Basketball Referees help create a fun, safe, and positive experience for young athletes while keeping games moving and applying league rules fairly.


What You'll Do


  • Officiate youth basketball games for 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, and 5th-6th grade divisions

  • Apply and explain league rules during games

  • Communicate positively and professionally with players, coaches, and Parks & Recreation staff

  • Work with Facility Supervisors to help games run smoothly

  • Encourage good sportsmanship and a positive environment for young athletes


Don't have officiating experience? That's okay!

Previous experience officiating or working with children is preferred, but not required. Rules for each program will be provided.


Schedule


  • Season: November through February

  • Days: Monday-Friday evenings

  • Typical Hours: Approximately 5:00-8:00 p.m., depending on the game schedule, registration numbers, and number of teams

  • Location: City State Bank Norwalk Fieldhouse, 2011 E. 18th Street, Norwalk


Pay & What You'll Need

Pay: $15 per hour officiated


Parks & Recreation will provide your referee shirt. Officials should bring:



  • Their own whistle

  • Athletic attire

  • A clean pair of tennis shoes

  • Reliable transportation to and from the Fieldhouse
