Job summary

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) invites a Post-Undergraduate Intern (Year‑Round) to join the Separations Engineering Group in Golden, CO. This on-site internship focuses on benchtop wet chemistry, sample prep, and various separation techniques under the BEST directorate, with opportunities to contribute to custom equipment development.

You will assist with chemical and protein purification, multi-scale chromatography, electrochemical separations, and programmatic automation.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated general laboratory experience and exposure to analytical chemistry and/or biochemistry.
• Must maintain minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student or have graduated within the past 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Support lab-based separation experiments and custom separation equipment development.
• Perform benchtop wet chemistry and sample preparation; chemical and/or protein purification.
• Work with multi-scale chromatography and electrochemical separation systems; assemble/modify separation equipment.
• Exposure to programming (e.g., Python) and assist in automating custom separation systems.
