Job summary

Federal Express Corporation is seeking a yard switcher/package handler in Maryland. Responsibilities include moving trailers between yard and doors, loading/unloading packages, and operating yard equipment in a safe, efficient manner.

Applicants should have a valid driver’s license (DOT on file) and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment with attention to safety and accuracy. E-Verify is used for U.S. applicants.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow safety instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform trailer switches moving a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door or from a door to the yard.
• Communicate with management or central control to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Document trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Utilize hand-to-surface methods for all package handling and sort packages accordingly.
• Load and unload packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, carts and load gratings.
• Sort packages by scanning labels and memorizing information.
• Other duties as assigned.
