Job summary

Carlile in Anchorage, AK is seeking a Yard Supervisor to lead the Yard crew, ensuring safety and efficient freight movement. You will oversee loading, rigging and labeling while coordinating yard traffic and labor needs.

The role requires 5 years of yard experience (3+ in transportation) and a strong focus on compliance, communication and team development. This is a hands-on leadership position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Five years yard experience, at least three years in transportation industry

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Yard crew to ensure safety and efficient movement of freight
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policy, and laws
• Oversee loading, securement and labeling of customer freight
• Manage yard traffic, appointment scheduling and labor planning
• Conduct performance reviews and coordinate with Human Resources
• Mentor and develop team, provide guidance and training
• Maintain open communication with other departments and managers
• Field incoming calls and emails addressing inquiries
• Ensure equipment is well maintained and in good working order
• Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $28.10 To $43.50 Hourly

This position is responsible to lead and supervise the Yard crew, ensuring a safe work environment and efficient movement of freight.

Essential Duties

• Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures
• Ensures compliance with DOT regulations, company policy, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws
• Ensures safe and accurate loading, securement and labeling of customer freight
• Oversees yard traffic and appointment scheduling
• Schedules yard labor, approves timesheets and PTO requests
• Administer performance reviews, disciplinary meetings and actions in coordination with Human Resources
• Manages the growth and success of the team by providing guidance and direction, mentoring, professional development and training
• Maintain open and effective communication with other departments and managers, proactively mitigating issues and concerns
• Field incoming calls and emails, responding appropriately and timely to internal/external customer inquiries
• Ensures equipment is well maintained and in good working order
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Five years previous Yard experience, at least three years in the transportation industry
