Position Function
The Yard Porter is responsible for providing a safe, clean work environment for all service technicians and customers that are dropping off or picking up equipment.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload equipment
- Daily inspections of forklift and shop equipment
- Clean, wash, grease and organize all equipment
- Clean wash bays
- May include mowing and yard maintenance
- Refuel equipment and operate forklift
- First assistant/attendant to Sales requiring machine traffic solution/loading
- Perform and report bi‑weekly yard inventories
- Monitor outside fuel containment/storage for capacity & safety
- Help maintain cleanliness, neatness and safety of building and yard
- Seasonally winterize equipment
- Run/pick up parts if needed
- Stay current with latest trends and develop through Factory Service Schools, VGP Service Schools, Individual Development Plans, etc.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures specified in Employee Handbook and set by Vermeer Great Plains
- Other duties as assigned

Determined by established company guidelines, including the ability to perform the above duties, customer feedback, guidance from Manager, and execution of feedback.

- Strong PC proficiency with MS Windows and MS Office Suite

- Ability to operate industrial equipment; including forklift, overhead hoist, etc.
- Mechanical/technical aptitude with excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated safe work habits
- Good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
- High degree of customer service to internal and external customers
- Strong ability to adapt to people and environment with customers, suppliers, co‑workers and manufacturer employees
- Professional, ethical and reliable conduct
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear 100% of the time
- Ability to be exposed to extreme weather elements and temperatures regularly
- Ability to withstand moderate to high noise level in working environment regularly
- Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed
Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED and 1 year of experience in the same or similar role and/or industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Equipment operator experience required
- Must have a valid unrestricted Driver’s License and ability to maintain one throughout employment
- Background check, pre‑employment drug testing and clean driving record required
