Job summary

Barnhill Contracting Company in Elizabeth City, NC, is seeking a general laborer to support asphalt paving and grading crews as a designated spotter. You will perform unskilled tasks, shovel, rake and assist with site operations to keep work moving smoothly.

The role may require long hours, weekends and some nights. A valid NC driver's license is encouraged, and willingness to learn multiple tasks with strict safety rules is essential.

Qualifications

• One year experience preferred but will train the right person.

Job Description:

Perform general labor duties including a designated spotter for trucks and equipment on an asphalt paving lay down crew or grading crew.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs various unskilled task which are associated with asphalt paving and/or grading operations.
• This includes but not limited shoveling asphalt, stone or dirt.
• Uses various tools such as a shovel, rake, lute, broom, pick, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer, drill, tamp and concrete saw.
• May operate a farm type tractor with power broom attachment.
• Perform duties of the designated spotter of which training will be conducted.

Minimum Qualifications & Training:

• One year experience but will train the right person
• Encourage a valid NC Drivers License
• Willingness to learn multiple task
• Ability to abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and policies.
• Maintain a good attendance and safety record.
• Ability to work weekends and some nights.

Tasks Essential to Job Functions:

• The job requires the following motions: standing, walking, stretching, bending, lifting, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching and squatting.
• Requires regular lifting of or in excess of 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Walking and standing may require a full day of 12 to 15 hours.
• Will be exposed to sometimes extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Job requires riding to and from work.
• If the driving of a company vehicle is required, then the guidelines of the company driver qualifications standards must be met.
