Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a reliable Yard Jockey / Yard Spotter to support daily yard operations at our Philadelphia facility. This role moves, positions, and organizes trailers, helping maintain efficient flow of equipment and materials while upholding safety standards.

Preferred CDL, but not required. You will perform pre-trip inspections, communicate with operations, and work outdoors in varying weather. DOT medical qualification may be required.

• Strong awareness of workplace safety procedures.

Yard Jockey / Yard Spotter

Location: Philadelphia, PA
CDL: Preferred, but not required

Pay Rate : Starting at 23.00/hr

Job Summary

Sims Metal is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious Yard Jockey / Yard Spotter to support daily yard operations at our Philadelphia facility. This position is responsible for safely moving, positioning, and organizing trailers throughout the yard while helping maintain an efficient flow of equipment and materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely move and position trailers throughout the facility.
• Transport trailers to designated loading, unloading, and staging areas.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
• Communicate with operations personnel to coordinate trailer movements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Follow all company safety policies and operating procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating yard trucks, spotter trucks, or similar heavy equipment is preferred.
• CDL preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination.
• Comfortable working outdoors in an industrial environment and varying weather conditions.
• Strong awareness of workplace safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and strong communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently climb in and out of yard trucks.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the shift.
• Ability to safely operate equipment in varying weather and yard conditions.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must meet applicable DOT medical qualification requirements.
