Job summary

Estes Express Lines in Medford, OR seeks a dockworker to safely handle trailers, operate forklifts, and assist in loading/unloading in the yard. You will perform inspections, secure loads, and communicate with yard supervision and drivers. This role requires physical stamina and reliable attendance.

Night or weekend shifts may be required, and a CDL is preferred if driving on public roads; candidates must pass background and drug screening.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent background.
• Must be 17+ years of age.
• CDL and acceptable MVR required if driving on public roads.
• If CDL holder, must be registered with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Experience in transportation industry a plus though not required.
• Stable work history.
• Ability to operate forklift (7500 lb. capacity).
• Must be able to push/pull loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck (min 70 lbs).
• Physical abilities include standing, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing a ladder.
• Must be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers (cranking landing gear, pulling 5th wheel pin ~65 lbs).
• Night/weekend shifts may be required.
• Must be able to lift ~70 lbs or more as needed.
• Must comply with company policies and interact well with others.
• Must be able to work independently or in a team.
• Capable of working under tight time constraints with multiple priorities.
• Must read and understand safety rules and manuals.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background checks.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver trailers and other large equipment in the yard.
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of yard/dock equipment.
• Properly cube, load, and unload freight using forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, or by hand.
• Secure loads using blocking, bracing, load bars, straps, dunnage and air bags to prevent damage in transit.
• Set up, break down and hook trailers safely.
• Ensure pup trailers have tilt bar lowered prior to loading freight.
• Raise and lower landing gear.
• Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; notify management.
• Work in outdoor weather conditions.
• Perform all duties of dockworker as required.
• Communicate with Dock supervision, Line Haul drivers and Fleet Services personnel.
• Regular attendance is required.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of the yard and dock equipment
• Properly cube, load and unload freight using a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or by hand
• Properly load freight to prevent damage and shifting in transit by blocking and bracing and thru the use of load bars, straps, dunnage and air bags.
• Accurately set up, break down and hook trailers safely
• Ensure all pup trailers have tilt bar to be lowered prior to loading of freight
• Raise and lower landing gear
• Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; notify management
• Work in outdoor weather conditions
• Perform all duties of dockworker as requested
• Communicate effectively with Dock supervision, Line Haul drivers and Fleet Services personnel
• Regular attendance is required.

• Must be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers which involves cranking landing gear, pulling 5th wheel pin which takes approximately 65 lbs. of pressure; and maneuvering a trailer dolly
• Night/weekend shifts may be required
• Must be able to lift approximately 70 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job
