Job summary

Estes Express Lines in Aurora, CO is seeking a Dockworker to safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and other large equipment in the yard, perform pre-shift inspections, and load and unload freight using forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck.

The role requires physical stamina (lifting 70 lbs), willingness to work outdoors in varying weather, adherence to safety rules, ability to read manuals, and teamwork with dock supervision and drivers; night/weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent background.
• Must be 17+ years of age.
• CDL and acceptable MVR required if driving on public roads.
• FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if CDL holder.
• Experience in transportation a plus but not required.
• Stable work history.
• Ability to operate forklift (7500 lb. vehicle).
• Must push/pull loaded pallet jack/hand truck with minimum 70 lbs.
• Physical abilities include standing, lifting, twisting, climbing a ladder, etc.
• Must drop/hook and couple trailers with 65 lbs. pressure and maneuvering a trailer dolly.
• Night/weekend shifts may be required.
• Must lift approx. 70 lbs or more.
• Must comply with company policies and work well with others.
• Work independently or in a team; handle high volume with multiple priorities.
• Read, interpret and comply with safety rules and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and other large equipment to facilitate loading/unloading in the yard.
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of yard and dock equipment.
• Properly cube, load and unload freight using a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or by hand.
• Properly load freight to prevent damage and shifting in transit by blocking and bracing and through load bars, straps, dunnage and air bags.
• Accurately set up, break down and hook trailers safely.
• Ensure all pup trailers have tilt bar lowered prior to loading of freight.
• Raise and lower landing gear.
• Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; notify management.
• Work in outdoor weather conditions.
• Perform all duties of dockworker as requested.
• Communicate effectively with Dock supervision, Line Haul drivers and Fleet Services personnel.
• Regular attendance is required.

• Experience in the transportation industry a plus although not required

• Stable work history

• Ability to operate forklift (7500 lb. vehicle)

• Must be able to push or pull loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70lbs

• Physical abilities include: standing, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing a ladder, etc.

• Must be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers which involves cranking landing gear, pulling 5th wheel pin which takes approximately 65 lbs. of pressure; and maneuvering a trailer dolly

• Night/weekend shifts may be required

• Must be able to lift approximately 70 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job

• Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct

• Must be able to interact well with others

• Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting

• Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities

• Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check

• Must be authorized to work in the United States
