What is my role?

The Yard Hostler will be responsible for safely operating the yard goat and efficiently spotting trailers within the yard spaces and dock doors for the inbound and outbound departments. This role involves driving, maneuvering, and positioning trailers to and from dock doors and parking areas. The Yard Hostler ensures that trailers are correctly positioned and that yard operations run smoothly. This position will also support warehouse operations with PIT operator tasks as needed.

What You'll Do

• Trailer Movement: Operate yard goat to move trailers between loading docks and designated parking areas.
• Trailer Positioning: Back trailers into dock doors and parking spaces with precision.
• Yard Management: Spot trailers in designated locations within the yard as needed and conduct daily yard checks.
• Inspection: Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
• Documentation: Complete required documentation for trailer movements and yard operations.
• Communication: Coordinate with warehouse and dock personnel to ensure smooth loading and unloading processes; update trailers via the yard management system on a tablet.
• Maintenance: Report any equipment issues or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
• Safety: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
• Support:Split shift between outdoor yard and indoor warehouse operations, depending on business needs.

What You'll Need

• Experience: Previous experience as a Yard Hostler or in a similar role is preferred (3 years).
• Driving: Valid Driver's License
• Skills: Proficient in operating yard trucks or hostlers, with strong backing and maneuvering skills.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with yard operations, trailer functionality, applying airline locks, and chocking trailers.
• Communication: Good verbal communication skills for effective coordination with team members.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately spot and position trailers.

Education and Certifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications: Valid Forklift Certification (No moving violations)
