Job summary

McLane Company is seeking a Yard Driver to support trailer movement at the distribution center and help prepare trailers for shipping. The role includes inspecting trailers, ensuring product security, and maintaining safety standards while operating within yard and nearby roads.

Pay is $26.40 per hour with shift variations. Benefits start after 60 days and include medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life insurance, vacation and sick leave accrual from day one, holidays after 90 days, and a 401(k)

Qualifications

• 2 years related driving experience preferred.
• 100,000-mile tractor-trailer experience preferred.
• CDL Class A required.
• Accident-free driving record for past 3 years preferred.
• Ability to read/write English at a sufficient level.

Responsibilities

• Drive tractor and attach trailer; secure lines.
• Spot/clean trailers to doors or lot locations.
• Inspect trailers for defects and document findings.
• Ensure refrigeration unit is functioning and report issues.
• Operate tractor-trailer within yard and on nearby roads.
• Meet physical requirements of the role.
• Load/unload or deliver products as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Yard Driver is responsible for providing support for trailer movement at the distribution center, as well as assisting preparation of trailers for shipping and monitoring the status of loaded trailers.

• Pay Rate: Yard Drivers make $26.40 per hour.
• (9 am - 5pm and 8 pm - 5 am. shift can change monthly.)

What you’ll do as a Yard Driver:

• Drive tractor, maneuvering into position to attach trailer and handle lines to secure.
• Clean and spot trailers to specified doors or lot locations.
• Inspect trailers for defects, pre/post trip and submit inspection report indicating condition.
• Inspect loaded trailers to ensure product is secure for undamaged transport of product and that refrigeration unit is functioning; report any issues to Operations Manager or Warehouse Lead.
• Drive tractor-trailer within yard or within short distances outside of yard, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering on the road and on Company premises.
• Meet this position’s physical demands.
• Ability and willingness to select/load/unload and/or deliver ALL products that may be ordered by our customers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications you’ll bring as a Yard Driver Teammate:

• Have a High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Have 2 years related driving experience is desired.
• Have 100,000-mile tractor-trailer experience is desired.
• Possess Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) required.
• Be accident-free driving record for the past three years desired.
• Be able to read and comprehend labels, instructions, bill of lading required.
• Be able to perform mathematical calculations to verify quantities of product required.
• This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
