Job summary

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school.
• Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York is required.
• Experience working with the public and diverse communities.
• Excellent customer relations and communication skills.
• Knowledge of young adult literature and programming.
• Understanding of adolescent development in urban communities.
• Bilingual skills highly desirable.
• Familiarity with internet, databases, social media, and basic computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Provides reference and reader’s advisory services for young adults (ages 13–17) and their parents/caregivers.
• Develops, maintains, and promotes the young adult collection in the branch.
• Maintains attractive appearance of the YA space with displays.
• Plans and evaluates age-appropriate programs and visits for young adults.
• Engages with schools and community organizations to promote Brooklyn Public Library services and programs.
• Advocates for young adults’ educational and social needs within the library and with partners.
• Interprets and implements library policies; serves on committees as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
