The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Burner to join our team of shipbuilders. The successful candidate will be responsible for making critical ship and module cuts using a variety of hand and track-driven equipment, ensuring precise alignment for proper installation of ship components and modules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate hand torches, IK12, IK72, and Koike mod drive burning machines to produce high-quality cuts
  • Determine proper tooling for each job, including choice of torch tip size and fuel flow settings
  • Interface with fellow shipbuilders, other trades, and ship management to ensure project success
  • Become proficient in the use of bevel gauges, squares, and rulers to establish precision machine setups
  • Work safely with a high degree of accuracy to produce final cuts
Must Have

Ability to work in extreme temperature environment. Ability to work at extreme heights or in very confined spaces. Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.

Preferred/Desired Skills

  • Previous experience in the construction industry or manufacturing environment (e.g., erecting structures, reading blueprints, framing houses)
  • Previous metal fabrication experience and shipbuilding experience preferred
  • Strong burning background with knowledge of correct tooling choice
  • Ability to understand construction plans and general construction principles
  • Honest, dependable, thorough, and strong work ethic
  • Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn
