Job summary

NextCare Urgent Care seeks a Practical Technologist in Radiology (PTR) / Medical Assistant for a fast-paced urgent care setting. You will perform radiology duties, assist with exams, manage patient vital signs, administer medications under supervision, and ensure EMR/EHR accuracy.

The role requires PTR licensure or equivalent MA certification, completion of an accredited radiology program, and adherence to safety and COLA standards.

Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved radiology school program.
• Must have a PTR license; certification required or equivalent national CMA/RMA/CCMA credentials if unaccredited MA program.
• EMR/EHR proficiency and ability to follow lab and COLA SOPs are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiology duties within scope of practice and in compliance with policies and state regulations.
• Assist providers with exams, patient vitals, procedures and other direct patient care.
• Administer medications per policy under Provider direction.
• Collect urine samples and perform related testing as needed.
• Perform wound care, splinting and casting as required.
• Conduct physicals such as sports physicals and notify provider of unusual events.

Responsibilities

The Practical Technologist in Radiology (PTR) / Medical Assistant is responsible for performing patient care duties under the Radiology & Medical Assistant scope of practice in the urgent care setting as follows:

• Performs radiology duties within the scope of practice as stated in NextCare Policies and Procedures, as well as the state appropriate Radiation Rules and Regulations.
• Assists provider with exams (including patient vitals), procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision of the Provider and within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant.
• Administers all forms of medications per policy and under Provider direction and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
• May be responsible for urine collection for various testing to include employer drug screens
• May perform splinting and casting
• Conduct various type physicals such as sports physicals
• Performs other related duties specific to urgent care such as wound care and oxygen administration.
• Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident report.
• Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.
• Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.
• Must be proficient in EMR/EHR
• Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Analytical Testing: Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing across authorized disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory's COLA-approved SOP manual.
• Quality Control & Calibration: Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values prior to reporting patient results.
• COLA Inspection Readiness: Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA on-site surveys.
• Competency & Training: Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year of employment, and annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
• Proficiency Testing (PT): Successfully test and document blind proficiency testing samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to strict anti-commingling regulations.
• Specimen & EMR Processing: Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Critical Value Notification: Promptly recognize critical, life-threatening results and follow immediate notification protocols to the attending healthcare provider.

Essential Education, Experience and Skills:

ARIZONA

Education:Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent;AND diploma or certificatefrom an accredited radiology school AND

• Completed anAPPROVED (accredited)Medical Assistant training program.

OR

• Completed anUNAPPROVED(non-accredited)Medical Assistant training programANDa National Certification through one of the following:
• American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification;or
• American Medical Technologists (AMT) -- provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria;or
• National Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification

License:Certified Practical Technologist in Radiology (PTR)

Certification:Current healthcare professional level CPR certification issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute or National Safety
