Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Technologist or his/her designee, the Radiologic Technologist performs radiographic examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow physicians’ orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation to protect themselves, patients, and coworkers from unnecessary exposure.
  • Help patients transfer to the detector or exam table and ensure adequate patient immobilization for radiologic exams.
  • Verify proper patient identification on the study and route it to PACS. Send required information to Virtual Radiologic when indicated.
  • Place demographic information in the reading room for interpretation.
  • Maintain a daily log of patients seen.
  • Operate radiologic or fluoroscopy (c-arm) equipment for diagnostic quality imaging.
  • Obtain essential information from patients, medical records, and previous scans for clinical correlation.
  • Monitor patient reactions to treatment and changes in physical or mental status, reporting changes to the appropriate person.
  • Prepare and assist patients for radiologic procedures as requested by a physician. Provide patient care with dignity and respect. Educate patients about procedures. Obtain optimal quality images through proper positioning, radiologic techniques, and protocols designed by radiologists.
  • Follow safety procedures, including radiation protection and universal precautions.
  • Perform quality control checks on equipment, reporting deficiencies for action.
  • Work independently and demonstrate flexibility in work assignments.
  • Commit to total quality management and service excellence, acting in accordance with organizational mission.
  • Stay informed about technological and safety updates for self, patients, and visitors.
  • Process studies onto CD or film format while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain equipment and work area cleanliness.
  • Practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Be familiar with emergency drugs and equipment locations.
  • Understand the department’s booking, scheduling, duplication, and PACS systems.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through training and continuing education.
  • Possess strong knowledge of human anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, positioning skills, and appropriate imaging protocols.
  • Maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses required by NY State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Protection, and ARRT.

Required Qualifications:

  • New York State Radiology License and ARRT Certification
  • Maintain diagnostic imaging in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Excellent patient and people skills.
  • Ability to maintain a strong knowledge of anatomy, positioning, protocols, and imaging techniques.
  • High knowledge of routine procedures and applications.
  • Ability to maintain ongoing education credits and professional licenses as required.

Pay Range $39/hr to $50/hr. Compensation will be based on experience and location.
