Job Summary
Performs imaging / therapeutic services and patient care to support the Radiology Department's mission of providing diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire (West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland) or within one year (Pennsylvania).
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
- State criminal background check, and federal background check if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated areas
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate across all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols.
- Produce high-quality images using proper equipment and techniques.
- Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, and other safety measures.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene.
- Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Engage in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical standards and departmental policies.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required training and competencies.
- Position patients accurately according to protocols.
- Assist in coordinating daily workflow.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students within policies.
- Ensure all steps of the imaging process are completed.
Physical Requirements
- Differentiate shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
- Exposure to minimal radiation, monitored by safety protocols.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
- Operate imaging equipment with moving parts.
Skills and Abilities
- Interact positively with patients and staff.
- Prioritize and handle multiple situations.
- Improvise in altered positioning or equipment use when needed.
Additional Job Details
- 40-hour work week with 8- and 12-hour shifts, including weekends, on-call, and holidays.
- Requires ARRT certification and WV license.
- Location: BMC Berkeley Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV.
