Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center is seeking an experienced Radiologic Technologist to perform a variety of imaging procedures under the direction of the Chief Technologist. Responsibilities include patient prep, positioning, image acquisition, and maintaining workflow in Epic and PACS Vue.

The ideal candidate has an ARRT certification, NY DOH license with injection, at least 2 years of radiologic experience, and strong patient communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in radiologic technology.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience.
  • ARRT certification and NY DOH license to practice in NY.
  • Knowledge of radiographic exposure equipment.
  • Ability to understand radiologic and medical terminology and to communicate with patients and hospital staff.
  • Spatial perception to visualize internal body structures for imaging.
  • Knowledge of angiographic and interventional radiology procedures.
  • Trained in immobilization techniques for neonates, infants, and pediatric and elderly patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and rooms; enter patient data in Epic and other systems.
  • Obtain scout films and set up imaging equipment.
  • Assist interventional radiologist and monitor procedures.
  • Maintain imaging workflow in Epic and PACS Vue; verify images and labeling.
  • Photograph and process images for radiologist review.
  • Maintain records of films, fluoro time, injections, etc.
  • Follow radiation safety rules for patients and staff.
  • Assist in training other staff and students.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the assigned area.
  • Perform duties of 5T/4T technologist as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks.

Overview

For positions that have only a rate listed, the displayed rate is the hiring rate but could be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education or other relevant factors.

Under the direction of the Chief Technologist, performs necessary imaging studies at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Provides leadership role for staff technologists. Assigns work to staff technologist and is generally responsible for traffic control in technical area.

Responsibilities
  • Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes a) entering patient data into Epic and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the procedure table in the correct position for the procedure to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout film for procedure. d) Appropriate positioning of monitors, foot switches, table controls and lighting for procedure to be performed.
  • Obtain cut film and digital images: This task includes the proper setting of exposures factors and imaging equipment to obtain high-quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
  • Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the interventional radiologist handling sterile equipment as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring exposure factors, fluoro time, etc. c) Involved with operating injector when necessary.
  • Maintain adherence to imaging workflow in Epic and Philips Vue (PACS). This includes tracking exams in Epic throughout all steps in the process. Also, verifying images in PACS to ensure the patient, exam type, labeling and orientation are correct.
  • Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling digital images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
  • Maintain all necessary records of films, fluoro time, injections, etc.
  • Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
  • Assist in training other associates and students.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
  • Perform duties of a 5T and/or 4T technologist as needed.
  • Perform other related assigned tasks.
Requirements
  • Associate Degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience.
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training in and meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT.
  • ARRT certification.
  • Licensed by State of NY DOH as Radiologic Technologist with Injection.
  • Knowledge of Radiographic exposure equipment.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiologic and medical terms and to exchange information with patients and hospital staff.
  • Spatial perception to visualize inner structures of the human body in relation to x-ray source and receptor in order to obtain radiographic and digital images of diagnostic value.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of angiographic and interventional radiological examinations.
  • Trained in the use of immobilizing techniques and devices for neonates, infants and children. Also, trained in management of elderly patients undergoing radiographic examinations.
  • Communicates with patients in a manner which demonstrates understanding of the patient’s developmental/cognitive level.
