Overview

The Diagnostic Tech/Occupational Health Tech at Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois, is responsible for performing diagnostic radiographic procedures and providing essential support in occupational health services. This role requires the application of ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes and the ability to perform a variety of diagnostic imaging techniques to produce accurate images for interpretation by a Radiologist. The individual will also assist with patient care, including processing patients for injury treatment, physical assessments, and conducting ancillary screenings as required by occupational health protocols. This position operates under indirect supervision and requires a strong focus on teamwork and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.

Essential Duties

Diagnostic Imaging:

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures with precision to ensure high-quality images.
  • Prepare and position patients, ensuring their comfort and safety during imaging procedures.
  • Operate radiographic equipment and perform routine quality control checks to maintain functionality.
  • Correlate patient history with imaging procedures, ensuring all relevant information is documented for Radiologist review.
  • Evaluate radiographic images for technical quality and accuracy, ensuring proper identification and anatomical markings.
  • Apply radiation safety protocols to minimize risk to patients, self, and others.

Occupational Health Services

  • Assist with pre-employment physicals, drug screenings, and other occupational health assessments.
  • Perform functions related to billing, including ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Conduct ancillary screenings as required by company protocols, including EKGs, drug screens, breath-alcohol tests, and pulmonary function tests.
  • Document and report results accurately to the appropriate company contacts.
  • Assist with injury treatment and processing patients for physical assessments and physician-related visits.
  • Provide education and instructions to patients regarding procedure preparations and occupational health guidelines.

Patient Care And Clerical Support

  • Greet patients courteously, assist them to the exam room, and ensure their privacy.
  • Monitor patients during exams, recognizing and reporting any abnormal findings.
  • Perform phlebotomy, vital sign checks, and administer injections as required.
  • Schedule patient appointments and perform accurate computer data entry in Agility and EPIC systems.
  • Maintain patient records and ensure all documentation meets regulatory standards

Safety And Compliance

  • Maintain and use principles of aseptic techniques and infection control during all clinical duties.
  • Recognize and address any patient safety issues, working to prevent injury and ensure a safe healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

Preferred Experience

  • Phlebotomy skills preferred; experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Ability to work in an automated environment and demonstrate competency in a variety of diagnostic radiology procedures.

Required Licensure/Education

  • Associates degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • IEMA Certification Required in Radiography
  • Graduate of AMA and accredited program in medical imaging and registry eligible.
  • ARRT RT (R) eligible or obtain within 6 months of hire.

  • Blood and Body Fluids: Vomit, diarrhea and blood, but the use of universal precautions and protection reduces risk/
  • TB or Airborne Pathogens: Exposure to patients, who my have TB.

Sensory Requirements (speech, Vision, Smell, Hearing, Touch)

  • Speech: Needed for presentations/training, telephone communication, facilitate meetings, communicate with personnel, patients, and physicians..
  • Vision: Needed to read memos, literature, identify anatomy from radiographs, blood pressure, and scale readings.
  • Smell: Helpful to note presence of electrical/fire safety.
  • Hearing: Needed for telephone communication, meetings, listening to employee concerns, contrasting levels for proper diagnostic viewing, and listening to blood pressure with stethoscope..
  • Touch: Needed to write, do computer entry, filing, manipulate techniques for correct density and contrast levels for proper diagnostic viewing, feel veins for venipuncture.
