Job summary

WSP’s Transport & Mobility team is seeking Transport Planners to join a growing group of over 350 experts across the UK & Ireland. You will work on strategies, plans and feasibility studies for public and private sector clients, contributing to projects from concept to delivery.

Roles include leading or contributing to projects, developing transport statements and assessments, and engaging with Local Authorities. Strong communication and delivery skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in active travel, public transport, transport programme development and/or business case development.
  • Experience developing transport-focused strategies, plans and policies.
  • Experience working with Local Authority and Combined Authority clients.
  • Experience managing and coordinating transport assessments and strategies for major or complex projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to liaise with diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on a variety of Transport Planning projects and proposals, providing technical and commercial inputs.
  • Manage tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with other WSP specialists.

WSP’s Transport & Mobility team brings together over 350 Transport Planning and Transportation Modelling experts across the UK & Ireland. We work on a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary projects for public and private sector clients, including transport strategy, active travel, public transport, research, feasibility studies, training programmes and funding applications.

Transport & Mobility @ WSP

With a strong regional and national pipeline of work, we are looking for Transport Planners and professionals with complementary skills to grow our team. Roles may include leading or contributing to projects across the entire project lifecycle.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead on a variety of Transport Planning projects and proposals, providing technical and commercial inputs.
  • Manage tasks as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, collaborating with other WSP specialists to deliver projects from concept to delivery.
  • Support the securing and delivery of work for our diverse local client portfolio.
  • Develop Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and engage in client and Local Authority scoping discussions.
  • Lead technical discussions around the accessibility of project / construction sites for a wide range of modes and articulate the impacts and mitigations required to support planning approvals.
  • Take a lead role on technical review and checking of deliverables within the team.
  • Work in a collaborative client/consultant environment and represent WSP’s values in all engagements.
  • Contribute actively to WSP’s four pillars – People, Clients & Growth, Operations, and Technical Excellence – supporting leadership in these areas.

  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to liaise with diverse audiences, including colleagues, public sector officials, members of the public and other project stakeholders.
  • Commercial acumen and the capability to support wider team management.
