Job Description

As part of the Content Editorial staff, this role coordinates and produces content such as long‑form features and short news articles for a variety of university publications, including Tulane Today, the university’s e‑newsletter and The Tulanian, the university’s alumni magazine. This position focuses on stories that highlight Tulane’s strengths across research, academics, campus life and community impact, including translating complex or specialized information into content accessible to a general audience. This position will also support the needs of the content editorial team with daily responsibilities including occasionally building the Tulane Today newsletter template in Emma, writing brief Announcements and Featured Events for the newsletter, building stories in Drupal, and writing for The Tulanian magazine.



Responsibilities


  • Ability to find and write stories suitable for publication in Tulane newsletters and magazines.

  • Knowledge of project planning, client service and communications.

  • Highly organized, works well under deadline pressure, and works effectively with internal and external groups.

  • Ability to work on multiple stories and/or projects at once, manage and adapt to shifting priorities, and turn quality work around quickly.

  • Ability to work effectively on a team

  • Working knowledge of Associated Press style.



Qualifications


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.

  • Five years’ experience in a field related to the writing, production and management of publications and periodicals, preferably in an academic setting.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of university and higher education issues.

  • Familiarity with content marketing.

  • Working knowledge of various associated software systems, such as Photoshop and Emma or other content management systems.

  • Knowledge of various communications techniques, including social media.
