Job summary

Wellstar Health System in Georgia is seeking a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOCN) Clinical Nurse to deliver advanced wound and ostomy care across acute and rehabilitative settings. The nurse will collaborate with Nurse Managers and care teams to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care for complex GI, GU, and integumentary conditions.

The WOCN will serve as a clinical resource, perform ongoing assessments, and participate in quality improvement, while upholding professional practice

Responsibilities

• Acts as a consultant to physicians, evaluating patients and developing care plans for wounds, fistulas, ostomies, and continence issues at a specialist level.
• Writes orders for consults within WOCN scope of practice and standing orders for other nurses to follow.
• Provides patient education pre- and post-op ostomy care and guidance for psychosocial adaptation to promote outcomes.
• Delivers nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice.
• Performs patient hand-offs and collaborative, interdisciplinary communication to ensure safe, effective care.
• Demonstrates safety and quality in clinical practice and adheres to policies and procedures.
• Operates in outpatient wound care and hyperbaric unit with knowledge of HBO therapy and treatment protocols.
• Monitors treatment delivery and patient responses to HBO therapy and adjusts as needed.
• Documents all treatment details, including chamber settings, duration, patient response, and observations in the record.
