  • Perform comprehensive physical therapy and wound assessments, including evaluation of wound characteristics, tissue integrity, edema, circulation, mobility, strength, balance, and functional limitations.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient diagnosis, wound status, functional goals, and overall medical condition.
  • Provide evidence-based wound care interventions within the therapist's scope of practice, which may include:
    • Wound cleansing and dressing management
    • Debridement techniques within applicable scope of practice and credentialing

    • Monitor wound progression and document changes in wound size, tissue characteristics, drainage, periwound condition, pain, and other clinically relevant findings.
    • Educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff regarding wound prevention, skin care, positioning, mobility, pressure redistribution, nutrition-related considerations, and home management.
    • Identify signs of infection, vascular compromise, deterioration, or other conditions requiring medical evaluation and communicate concerns promptly.

  • Wound care certification such as Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), Certified Wound Care Physical Therapist (WCS/WCC-related credential, as applicable), or another recognized wound-care credential.
  • Experience treating pressure injuries, diabetic wounds, venous or arterial ulcers, surgical wounds, or complex/chronic wounds.
