Job summary

American Electric Power in Columbus/New Albany, Ohio is seeking an Architect to lead design and construction activities on complex projects. You will prepare bid documents, supervise projects through completion, and apply architectural knowledge safely and economically.

The role requires NAAB-accredited degree, 4+ years of experience, and US licensure with NCARB certification; Master’s degree preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation is expected.

Job Summary

Responsible for performing architectural design and construction activities on projects requiring the application of architectural knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. Candidate will also be responsible for bid documents and project supervision through completion of the assigned projects and tasks. Ability to program, design and execute facility construction projects, exhibits proficiency and knowledge of designs that enables the architect to serve as a resource for the company in that area; proficient in the use of MircoStation or AutoCAD software.

What You’ll Do:

• Possesses the knowledge to make some technical decisions, with supervision, based on calculated risks with little management review; provides support to supervisor or manager to assist in making decisions affecting long range plans and goals based on analysis of input and outcomes.
• With supervision identifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to problems that are typical to the organizational unit and requires knowledge of facility design and/or problem solving techniques.
• Assists in the preparation and presentation of the most designs, clearly, concisely, and persuasively, bringing in ancillary issues before senior management, professional organizations, etc.
• Possesses team building skills that extend through AEP, and other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia.
• Develops, recommends, and implements plans to address project issues within field of design expertise.

• Incumbent is accountable for making sound recommendations and decisions that have an impact across organizational boundaries. Incumbent has no authority to commit Company assets or approve expenditures unless so authorized in accordance with approved Company procedure.
• Depending upon assignment, position may entail some travel and exposure to situations which require the knowledge, understanding and adherence to applicable safety procedures.
• May require extended hours to accomplish assigned tasks to meet requirements and schedules.
• Masters degree in Architecture preferred.
• Demonstrates vision in identifying business opportunities for the organizational unit.
