Job summary

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is seeking a Statistical Analyst IV to provide direct supervision, strategic direction, and advanced data analysis within the Prevention Services Division. You will guide four junior evaluators and lead the EPIC evaluation efforts to improve public health programs.

This role emphasizes statistical rigor, project management, and translating findings into actionable insights for decision-makers across Colorado.

Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of relevant experience as a program evaluator that includes data analysis.
  • A combination of related education with a degree in public health, sociology, or other science/social sciences degree and/or relevant experience as a program evaluator that includes data analysis equal to eight (8) years.

The Work Unit:

The Prevention Services Division (PSD) works with public and private partners across Colorado to improve the health of all Coloradans. Division professionals develop, review, implement, and evaluate public health interventions proven to promote healthy living, prevent chronic disease, protect against injury, support maternal and child health, and ensure access to health care and opportunities for a healthy lifestyle. The Division staff works to establish integrative, cross-cutting approaches that leverage human and financial resources to produce the most effective public health prevention programs in the nation. The Division is committed to the professional development, collaborative effort, and sustained wellness of its workforce.

The Epidemiology and Evaluation Branch conducts epidemiological analyses, surveillance, and evaluation in support of the Violence and Injury Prevention-Mental Health Promotion (VIP‑MHP) Branch and Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) in the Prevention Services Division. Through this work, the evaluation and epidemiology teams collaboratively provide meaningful, actionable, and accessible data to programs and communities to make decisions that advance the health of all Coloradans.

What You Will Do:

The position provides direct supervision, technical mentorship, and guidance to four junior evaluators and serves as a senior evaluator by providing strategic direction of evaluation projects and project management, conducting statistical analysis, and interpreting statistical evaluation results to improve prevention programs and ensure programs are reaching their intended outcomes. This position also serves as the expert on evaluation of the Elevating Prevention in Colorado (EPIC) program consisting of federal and state funds. As the EPIC evaluation expert, this position also functions as the contract monitor over the long‑term EPIC evaluation and participates in national meetings to represent Colorado on evaluation of federally funded programs for substance use primary prevention.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only:

Eight (8) years of relevant experience as a program evaluator that includes data analysis.

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education with a degree in public health, sociology, or other science/social sciences degree and/or relevant experience as a program evaluator that includes data analysis equal to eight (8) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Experience in evaluating policy, system, or environmental change strategies or other public health evaluation.
  2. Experience in providing technical assistance to others regarding evaluation, data collection, and data interpretation.
  3. Experience analyzing complex qualitative and quantitative information and translates the results into clear, meaningful, actionable insight for diverse decision makers.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to complex, interpersonal, process, and systemic challenges. Synthesizes research into usable resources. Applies critical thinking to develop logic models and metrics or data indicators to evaluate program effectiveness.
  5. Demonstrated ability to consult and collaborate with program leadership, funders, grantees, and community partners, and to negotiate differing expectations to achieve mutually agreeable evaluation designs and outcomes.
  6. Experience supervising.
