Job summary

Lone Star College seeks an instructor for the CISCO Academy to deliver courses, advise students, and maintain lab facilities.

LSC-Westway Park Technology Center, a satellite center ofLSC-CyFair, is located between Clay and Tanner roads off the SamHouston Tollway. This center will focus on LSC-CyFair's VisualCommunication and Information Technology workforce trainingprograms with certificates and degrees in areas such as Cisco andMicrosoft Networking, Cyber Security, Computer Forensics, Graphicand Web Design, and 3D animation.

Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Provides direction, teaching, and support for CISCO Academy courseobjectives and contributes to the educational environment of theLone Star College and the community. Responsibilities includeteaching and advising students. Primary functions are to plan,maintain, access, and teach courses within the curriculum in amanner that facilitates student success and student learning.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Teaches courses in CISCO Networking at a variety of times andlocations in response to institutional needs, making continuousefforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing andutilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and deliverymethods
  2. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement andapplication of the material
  3. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratorywithin college and departmental guidelines
  4. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievementof stated course objectives and informs them in a timely manner oftheir progress in the course. Identifies and assesses student whoare in need of additional instruction to successfully complete thecourse objectives
  5. Responsible for recruiting and advising students in theirarea
  6. Responsible for managing their classrooms and labs, includingassuring lab facilities meet state requirements
  7. Responsible for assisting with student job placement
  8. Works directly with certification agencies to ensure alignmentand high level of program and student success
  9. Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to configure CISCO routers and switches with industrystandard routing protocols, Vlans and spanning tree
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Mastery of course content

  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications and Outlook
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizescollaboration, teamwork, and facilitation

  • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in theirlearning
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods ofstanding; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurringbending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similaractivities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such astypewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, butcommon, physical characteristics and abilities, such as aboveaverage agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out thefunctions of the position.
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office and/orlaboratory environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have at minimum a CISCO certification or be willing toobtain certification within first 6 months of employment
  • 3 years of industry experience in LAN/WAN/VoIP utilizing CISCOrouters and switches
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Computer Networking orrelated field

Commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
