Job summary

The New York State Department of Labor is seeking a student intern to support front-line customer service and digital navigation of workforce tools in a public service setting. You will greet visitors, assist with check-ins, answer phones, and guide inquiries to the appropriate staff and departments.

You will also help with resumes, job applications, and navigating tools like VCC, InterviewStream, Coursera, and Northstar, while providing basic tech support and assisting with scheduling workshops

Qualifications

• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a NYS resident attending a program outside NYS.
• Have completed a minimum of one year as a student at a degree-granting college or university, or be a currently enrolled graduate student.
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Responsibilities

• Customer Engagement: Welcome visitors, assist with check-ins, and guide individuals to the appropriate staff or department.
• Front-Line Support: Answer phones, help route inquiries, and provide timely responses to common customer requests.
• Resource Room Assistance: Support customers with resumes, job applications, and navigation of workforce tools (VCC, InterviewStream, Coursera, Northstar).
• Digital Literacy Coaching: Provide basic computer and technology assistance, including email setup and job search platforms.
• Workshop & Event Support: Assist with scheduling, sign-ups, marketing, and facilitation of workshops and recruitments.
• Technical Assistance: One-on-one digital coaching to help teaching customers and staff use online portals.
