Position Summary

The Workface Planner supports safe and efficient construction execution by developing, coordinating, tracking, and maintaining Construction Work Packages, Work Packages, and Installation Work Packages as required by the project. This role helps ensure field crews have the approved information, materials, equipment, tools, access, permits, safety requirements, quality requirements, and resources needed before work begins.

Job Overview

The Workface Planner supports safe and efficient construction execution by developing, coordinating, tracking, and maintaining Construction Work Packages, Work Packages, and Installation Work Packages as required by the project. This role helps ensure field crews have the approved information, materials, equipment, tools, access, permits, safety requirements, quality requirements, and resources needed before work begins.

Working with Construction, Technical Services, Field Engineering, Project Controls, Document Control, Procurement, Material Management, Quality, Safety, Superintendents, General Foremen, and project leadership, the Workface Planner helps reduce field delays, improve workface readiness, support lookahead planning, and maintain package status through execution and closeout.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Construction Work Packages, Work Packages, and Installation Work Packages for field execution in accordance with project requirements and approved Workface Planning processes.
  • Break down construction scope into manageable packages by area, discipline, system, equipment, drawing set, construction sequence, or other approved work breakdown method.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, isometrics, P&IDs, general arrangements, support details, schedules, and scope documents to prepare executable work packages.
  • Coordinate with Construction leadership to align packages with field sequence, daily priorities, schedule requirements, and workface readiness needs.
  • Support development and maintenance of the 6 Week Look Ahead, 3 Week Look Ahead, and Weekly Work Plan, and support other project planning horizons as required.
  • Coordinate with Project Controls to align packages with schedule activities, phase codes, quantities, progress items, earned progress rules, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with Document Control to confirm drawings, specifications, RFIs, procedures, and supporting documents are current, controlled, and applicable to the work package.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Material Management to confirm required materials are identified, ordered, received, available, staged, and accessible for planned work.
  • Verify required tools, equipment, scaffold, access, permits, manpower assumptions, safety requirements, inspections, and quality documentation are identified prior to package release.
  • Identify, document, assign, track, and accelerate obstructions or constraints that could delay package readiness or field execution.
  • Maintain package logs, obstruction / constraint logs, readiness checklists, package status records, and other project-approved tracking tools.
  • Coordinate package readiness reviews with Construction, Field Engineering, Document Control, Project Controls, Procurement, Material Management, Quality, and Safety as applicable.
  • Prepare packages for Construction leadership review and field release after readiness requirements are satisfied or formally accepted by authorized project leadership.
  • Participate in daily planning meetings, weekly coordination meetings, schedule review sessions, and workface readiness reviews.
  • Track package progress, spent hours, field feedback, open issues, remaining work, and closeout status throughout execution.
  • Support package closeout by confirming completed scope, progress support, QC documentation, redlines, lessons learned, remaining work, and required signoffs.
  • Support schedule recovery and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve sequencing, package readiness, material availability, and workflow efficiency.
  • Support audits of package readiness, document control, obstruction tracking, release compliance, and closeout records.
  • Ensure work planning activities support Primoris safety, quality, schedule, client, and project requirements.
Role Authority and Limits

The Workface Planner may flag a package as not ready when required information, materials, approvals, access, safety requirements, quality requirements, prerequisite work, or field readiness items are incomplete. The Workface Planner may also recommend that a package be held from release until blocking obstructions are resolved or formally accepted by authorized project leadership.

The Workface Planner does not approve engineering changes, direct field means and methods, bypass Document Control, approve use of obsolete or superseded documents, override safety or quality requirements, or release work packages with unresolved blocking obstructions without documented authorization from project leadership.
