Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Workday Extend Principal Consultant to lead the design, development, and delivery of Extend solutions. You will act as a trusted advisor, architecting custom applications and automations to extend standard Workday functionality.

You will guide delivery leadership, support pre-sales, mentor teams, and contribute to practice growth by sharing knowledge and driving technical innovation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Active Workday Extend Certification is preferred.
• Certifications in Workday Integrations or Architecture are desirable.
• 5+ years of Workday implementation experience.
• Proven experience leading Extend workstreams end-to-end.
• Experience in designing and developing applications using Workday Extend.
• Strong understanding of architecture, integration patterns, and security.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Workday Extend SME guiding architecture, design, and best practices.
• Lead client workshops and technical design to define Extend solutions.
• Design, develop, and deploy custom Workday Extend applications.
• Lead Extend workstreams on medium to large implementations with risk management.
• Translate requirements into scalable, secure Extend apps.
• Partner with functional, integrations, reporting, security, and PM teams.
• Advise on extensibility, automation opportunities, and UX capabilities.
• Support testing, deployment, cutover, and post-go-live activities.
• Mentor consultants and developers with coaching and reviews.
• Support business development with estimations, proposals, demos, and presentations.
• Contribute to practice development with reusable assets and training.
• Maintain expertise in Extend functionality and emerging tech.

Job description

The Workday Extend Principal Consultant is a senior technical consultant responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of Workday Extend solutions. Acting as a trusted advisor, this individual helps organisations maximise the value of their Workday investment by designing and deploying custom applications, automations, and user experiences that extend standard Workday functionality.

The Principal Consultant combines deep Workday Extend expertise with delivery leadership, pre-sales support, and mentoring responsibilities. They lead Extend workstreams on complex implementations, support business development activities, and contribute to the growth of the Workday practice through knowledge sharing and technical innovation.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a Workday Extend subject matter expert, providing guidance on solution architecture, application design, and Workday best practices.
• Lead client workshops and technical design sessions to define Extend solutions aligned to business requirements.
• Design, develop, and deploy custom applications using Workday Extend.
• Lead Extend workstreams on medium to large Workday implementations, managing solution decisions, risks, and dependencies.
• Translate business requirements into scalable, supportable, and secure Extend applications.
• Partner with Functional, Integrations, Reporting, Security, and Project Management teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Advise clients on Workday extensibility, automation opportunities, user experience design, and platform capabilities.
• Support testing, deployment, cutover, and post-go-live activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Mentor consultants and developers, providing coaching, quality reviews, and technical guidance.
• Support business development activities including solutioning, estimations, proposals, demonstrations, and customer presentations.
• Contribute to practice development through methodology enhancements, reusable assets, internal training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Maintain expertise in Workday Extend functionality, emerging technologies, and Workday product innovations.

Skills & Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Active Workday Extend Certification preferred.
• Additional certifications in Workday Integrations or Workday Architecture are desirable.
• 5+ years of Workday implementation experience.
• Proven experience leading Workday Extend workstreams on end-to-end Workday implementations.
• Experience designing and developing applications using Workday Extend.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, integration patterns, security concepts, and software development best practices.
• Experience gathering requirements, facilitating workshops, solution design, development, testing, and deployment.
• Experience supporting pre-sales activities including estimations, proposals, demonstrations, and solution presentations.
• Strong consulting, stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Ability to mentor team members and provide technical leadership across projects.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
• Eligible for SC Clearance - you must have been a UK resident for the last five years and be legally entitled to work in the UK.
• Minimal travel required, but must be willing to travel on-site as needed.
