Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking a local, work-study web developer to join Driven Marketing Solutions. Build and maintain client and internal sites on WordPress or hand-built platforms, turning designs into responsive pages with strong UI.

Maintain multiple sites, ensure security, speed, and SEO readiness, and collaborate across teams. Role is contractor/freelance (not W-2), with partial remote eligibility and flexible, project-based hours.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience building websites from scratch and on CMS platforms.
  • Strong front-end/UI build skills; able to turn a design into a clean, responsive site.
  • Comfortable working across a CMS (WordPress especially) and hand-built sites.
  • Knowledge of website security best practices (2FA, staging, backups).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple sites across multiple clients; references from long-term clients or agencies.
  • Strong communication and responsiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Build new websites and rebuilds - from scratch or on a CMS (WordPress, etc.), including custom page and UI work.
  • Design and build new pages, forms, and features for internal and client projects.
  • Implement security best practices (backups, updates, staging, monitoring).
  • Maintain and update our agency website and provide ongoing support for client sites we host.
  • Manage plugins, themes, and integrations; troubleshoot site issues.
  • Keep sites performing well – speed, mobile, and SEO readiness.
  • Follow documented workflows for change requests, approvals, and client communications.
