Job summary

Cleveland State University is seeking a woodshop technician to maintain the woodshop and equipment, and to provide technical/instructional support to students and faculty in the safe operation of woodshop equipment. The role includes setting up the woodshop, preparing materials, and maintaining inventory records in collaboration with the Art Department.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in art/design or related field, with strong communication and safety skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in art and design or related field required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff and supervise learners.
• Strong commitment to safety procedures and compliance with equipment manufacturers’ guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain woodshop and equipment; ensure safe operation of all machinery.
• Provide technical and instructional support to students and faculty.
• Set up woodshop and prepare materials for use by Art Gallery and Art Department.
• Maintain records of equipment inventory and usage.
• Recommend purchases of new equipment and repairs of existing equipment.
• Interact professionally with internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in art and design or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related professional or academic experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in art or design or a related field.
• Experience managing a woodshop.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and other internal/external groups, and ability to supervise and instruct students.
• Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures specified by equipment/supply manufacturers.
