Job summary

MillerKnoll in Atlanta is seeking a dedicated wood finishing technician to join our manufacturing team and ensure high-quality finishes across standard and custom materials.

You will collaborate with production, quality, sales and customer service while applying finishes and maintaining safety standards on the shop floor. Benefits start day one and growth opportunities are strong.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Two+ years of wood finishing production experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, environmentally friendly finishing on the shop floor.
• Create stains to match samples as requested by the database administrator or Sales/Marketing.
• Evaluate finishing materials on receipt prior to production release.
• Inspect discrepant materials and apply corrective actions.
• Produce production control samples for quality references.
• Produce marketing-related samples.
• Train Production staff in finishing methods and tool use.
• Verify inventories of Purchasing, Warehouse and Production.
• Perform additional duties as needed to meet business objectives.

GENERAL PURPOSE

To provide services that will ensure that Geiger is able to supply customers with products that meet or exceed their expectations. Job function will focus on the creation, development, production, and management of standard and special wood finishing materials and the methods used to successfully apply them. Duties will require the employee to be actively involved with co-workers on the shop floor, in management, on the quality team, in sales and marketing, and in customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Advocate safe and environmentally friendly ways of applying finish material, using personal protective devices, and disposing of finishing waste.
• Creation of ‘stain to match samples’ as requested by Stain to Match Database Administrator and/or Sales and Marketing Team.
• Evaluate properties of standard and special finishing materials upon receipt from supplier prior to release to the production floor per written work instructions.
• Evaluate/inspect discrepant materials and/or processes on the shop floor. Provide corrective actions based on findings.
• Manage the production of marketing related samples.
• Manufacture of ’production control ’ samples for use as quality references by internal and external customers.
• Perform other activities as assigned.
• Support Quality Control Team in the application and development of quality control related tools and standards on the shop floor.
• Train and instruct Production Staff in the proper methods of material application and finishing related tool usage,
• Verification of Purchasing Dept., Warehouse, and Production inventories for standard and special finish materials.
• Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience

• One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency.
• Two or more years of relevant production wood finishing experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Color perception that meets or exceeds requirements specified in Corporate Work Instruction 26.
• Formal or ‘On the Job’ training in wood finishing laboratory procedures called out in department work instructions.
• Willing to be flexible with work assignments and work off-shift hours as business needs require.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to make decisions based on a given set of written criteria.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the office environment
