  • Support preceptors, conduct regular progress reviews, and partner with leadership to assess readiness for independent practice and identify additional learning needs.

  • Maintain role‑specific initial and annual competencies through direct observation, return demonstration, simulation, and other appropriate validation methods.

  • Coordinate maternal-newborn cross‑training for couplet care and ensure competency is documented before independent assignments.

Clinical Education and Emergency Readiness
  • Create an annual education plan based on staff learning needs, patient acuity, quality data, safety events, practice changes, and departmental priorities.

  • Provide skills days, bedside coaching, case reviews, and interdisciplinary simulations focused on obstetric hemorrhage, severe hypertension, maternal deterioration, fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, and newborn stabilization.

  • Coordinate applicable AWHONN education, fetal monitoring courses, neonatal education, and resuscitation training; teach only when appropriately authorized and credentialed.

  • Strengthen obstetric emergency readiness across the ED, ICU, respiratory therapy, and other partner departments through coordinated education and drills.

  • Provide education and competency support for clinical equipment, fetal monitoring systems, documentation workflows, and new therapies in collaboration with approved subject matter experts.

Evidence-Based Practice and Quality Improvement

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing, nursing education, or a related field.

  • Specialty certification in inpatient obstetric nursing, electronic fetal monitoring, maternal‑newborn nursing, neonatal nursing, or nursing professional development.

  • Experience with Level II NICU care, couplet care implementation, education program development, and quality improvement.

  • Current fetal monitoring education and relevant instructor credentials, such as NRP or AWHONN course instructor credentials, when appropriate to assigned teaching responsibilities.
