Job summary

ABC7 Chicago, the Midwest flagship of the ABC network, offers a part-time internship in Chicago, IL for six months from January 2027 through June 2027. The role provides hands-on learning in news judgment, writing, and reporting within a dynamic broadcast environment.

You will travel with reporters, observe anchors, and shadow a range of producers while gaining exposure to how news is distributed across TV and digital platforms. A portfolio link on your résumé is required for full consideration.

About the Role & Program

ABC7 (WLS-TV) Chicago is the Midwest flagship of the ABC television network.

ABC7 leads the market in local news coverage with daily linear and streaming newscasts and has been in the number one position in local news since March 1986! The station’s offices and studios are in The Loop in downtown Chicago.

This internship is a part time (18 hours a week), six-month commitment in the Chicago, IL area from January 2027-June 2027.

What You Will Do

ABC7 Chicago is looking for an intern who wants to learn from the experienced team from Chicago’s #1 source for news. Our ideal candidate is ready to develop their news judgment, writing skills, and reporting skills and is prepared to grow as a journalist by experiencing the daily opportunities and unpredictable nature of broadcast news.

On any given day you may do the following:

• Travel with reporters and photojournalists in the field for newsgathering, story completion, and live remotes

• Observe anchors in the studio during live newscasts

• Practice writing copy and editing video

• Shadow linear producers, executive producers, digital producers, and special projects producers in their respective roles

• Attend morning and/or afternoon editorial meetings

• Get an up-close look at how news is distributed beyond TV to our myriad of digital and social media platforms

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Previous experience in broadcasting, new media production, or script writing

• Proficiency with social media

• Experience with working in independent and collaborative environments

Education

• Junior or senior year preferred

• Major or previous coursework in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media or related field

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.

• Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information

• Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship

• The approximate dates of this internship are January 2027 through June 2027

• Fully available for the duration of the internship, working 18 hours each week

• Able to provide own housing for the duration of internship program in the Chicago, IL area

• Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work in the Chicago, IL area

The pay rate for this role in Illinios is $20.00 per hour.
