Job summary

Peak Utility Infrastructure in Kentucky is seeking a Substation Wireman to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring and equipment in substations, ensuring safe operation of high-voltage power systems. You will handle transformers, breakers, relays, and switchgear in accordance with NEC standards.

The role requires reading blueprints, performing inspections and troubleshooting, and collaborating with engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with electrical training.
• Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent (3 years) and passing the IBEW exam.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, wiring methods, and high voltage systems.
• Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, and control/communication systems.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied weather conditions.

Essential Functions

A Substation Wireman installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring and equipment in substations, ensuring safe, reliable operation of high‑voltage power systems. This position is responsible for installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within substations — the facilities that step down high‑voltage transmission power for local distribution. They handle components such as transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, and switchgear, and must comply with strict safety regulations and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Roles And Responsibilities

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.

• Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions

Experience And Education

• High school diploma or GED; electrical training program completion.
• Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent (often 3 years) and passing the IBEW exam.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, wiring methods, and high voltage systems.
• Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, and control/communication systems.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied weather conditions.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication skills.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• Physical stamina for manual labor.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
