Job summary

Tarana Wireless Inc is seeking engineers who can grow into a role shaping the MAC scheduler, the core software that allocates spectrum and antennas across users. You will start by fixing real production bugs and own a sub-component, then propose algorithmic improvements that improve network performance.

You'll learn from experienced teammates, read and review code, debug on real hardware, and build simulations to validate ideas before implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in CS, EE, CE, or related field.
  • Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and the mathematics underneath them: probability, linear algebra, and enough comfort with proofs to reason about why something works.
  • You can already program well. C++ or C preferred, but if you are strong in another language and have written performance-sensitive code, we will take that seriously.
  • Evidence that you build things because you want to, not because they were assigned. A project you took further than the class required, something you wrote to solve your own problem, a system you built and kept improving.
  • The ability to explain your reasoning clearly, including the parts you are unsure about

Responsibilities

  • Learn wireless from the ground up: how signals propagate, why interference happens, what a scheduler is actually optimizing
  • Read a lot of code written by people who thought hard about it, and get your own code reviewed by them
  • Debug problems on real hardware, where the answer is often not in the software
  • Work with field telemetry from a live network and learn to find signal in it
  • Build simulations to test whether an idea works before anyone commits to building it

Skills

Algorithms
Data structures
Mathematics
Programming (C/C++)
Problem solving

Education

Bachelors or Masters in CS/EE/CE

Job description

Join the Team That's Redefining Wireless Technology

At Tarana, we're more than just a fast-growing tech company—we’re a team of bold innovators on a mission to revolutionize broadband. Our groundbreaking Fixed Wireless Access technology is delivering fiber-class internet speeds worldwide, bridging the digital divide in ways previously thought impossible.

We are looking for engineers we can grow into this role. You do not need wireless experience. What matters is that you learn quickly, think deeply, and are excited by problems where the answer is not already known. You will be working on the MAC scheduler, the software that decides, thousands of times per second, how spectrum and antenna resources are allocated among users on a sector. It is a hard problem, and it's still evolving. You will work with engineers designing the algorithms running in our product today.

You will start by fixing real bugs in production code, which is the fastest way to learn a system of this scale, and you will own a sub-component. Later, we expect you to propose algorithmic changes that directly affect the performance of our deployed network.

This is an opportunity to go from learning an unfamiliar system to shaping the algorithms at its core.

What You’ll Do:
  • Learn wireless from the ground up: how signals propagate, why interference happens, what a scheduler is actually optimizing
  • Read a lot of code written by people who thought hard about it, and get your own code reviewed by them
  • Debug problems on real hardware, where the answer is often not in the software
  • Work with field telemetry from a live network and learn to find signal in it
  • Build simulations to test whether an idea works before anyone commits to building it
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and the mathematics underneath them: probability, linear algebra, and enough comfort with proofs to reason about why something works
  • You can already program well. C++ or C preferred, but if you are strong in another language and have written performance-sensitive code, we will take that seriously
  • Evidence that you build things because you want to, not because they were assigned. A project you took further than the class required, something you wrote to solve your own problem, a system you built and kept improving
  • The ability to explain your reasoning clearly, including the parts you are unsure about
What Would Make You Stand Out
  • Wireless or communications coursework, including signal processing or information theory.
  • Optimization, control theory, or applied machine learning.
  • Embedded or systems programming, or experience where performance and memory constraints mattered.
What we offer:

We don’t just build next-gen wireless technology — we build people.

The salary range for this position is: $90,000to $120,000 Compensation will be determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location. Tarana provides competitive benefits to employees in this role, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K match, flexible time off, and stock options.

Join Tarana and help shape the future of wireless connectivity.
