Job summary

LER TechForce is seeking a Wire Harness Design Engineer to join our client site in Texas. You will own end-to-end design, routing, and packaging of automotive electrical distribution systems, including high‑voltage or autonomous architectures.

  • Understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, wire gauges, circuit sizing, and harness materials.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routing clashes and perform root-cause analysis.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and assembly plants on FPSO and DFM.

What you will be doing:

A Wire Harness Design Engineer in the automotive industry is responsible for the end-to-end design, routing, and packaging of a vehicle's electrical distribution system. In the context of VSAS (Vehicle Systems, Architecture, & Strategy or Vehicle Safety Analysis), this role focuses on designing harnesses that physically integrate these complex, high-voltage, or autonomous electrical systems safely and efficiently.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Electrical Routing & Packaging:
    • Develop 3D wire harness routes using CAD software like CATIA V5/V6.
  • System Integration:
    • Work alongside systems and architecture teams to ensure proper placement of connectors, splices, and wiring branches within the vehicle envelope.
  • Drawing & Release:
    • Author and release 2D schematic drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and change notices using corporate systems.
  • Compliance & Validation:
    • Ensure all routing meets stringent SAE or ISO automotive standards for vibration, heat, chemical exposure, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
  • Collaborate with suppliers and assembly plants on First Piece Sign-Off (FPSO) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
What you'll need to be successful:
  • Strong working knowledge of CATIA or equivalent tools like Mentor Graphics Capital.
  • Understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, wire gauges, circuit sizing, and harness materials.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Ability to troubleshoot routing clashes, resolve packaging issues, and perform root-cause analysis.
