Job summary

DREAM Adaptive Recreation is seeking a Winter Program Specialist (Instructor) to deliver adaptive alpine lessons at Whitefish Mountain Resort, with Nordic option at the Nordic Center. You will coach high-quality, safe sessions and support Groups, Local, General, and Veterans Programs throughout the season.

You will join a team of volunteers and staff, upholding DREAM values, maintaining safety protocols, and contributing to on-site operations and equipment care in a fast-paced, outdoor setting.

Qualifications

  • Advanced skiing or riding skills.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage risk, following all program policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple high-priority tasks.
  • Willingness to obtain PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification if not already.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-level, safe snowsports instruction.
  • Facilitate individual and group lessons with prep, safety, and paperwork.
  • Attend trainings/clinics on hill and indoors.
  • Assist with setup, inspection, maintenance, and storage of equipment.
  • Uphold risk management policies and report incidents immediately.
  • Communicate daily with Program Manager about updates and concerns.
  • Collaborate with a large team of volunteer instructors.
  • Support on-site operations and equipment management.
  • Maintain relationships with DREAM community and Whitefish Mountain Resort staff.
  • Represent DREAM positively in the community.

Job description

Job Summary The Winter Program Specialist (Instructor) will uphold the mission of DREAM Adaptive Recreation by primarily teaching adaptive alpine lessons at Whitefish Mountain Resort with the option to teach adaptive nordic lessons at Whitefish Lake Golf Course and Nordic Center. The Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality, safe, adaptive alpine and nordic lessons as well as providing support in various program related day-to-day tasks. The Instructor will be tasked with supporting the Groups, Local, General, and Veterans Programs throughout the season. This position is often the first to interface with participants and their families/caregivers which requires exceptional customer service and people skills.

About The Position Under the direction of the Program Director, the Instructor’s primary duties include:

  • Functioning as part of the Program Team by delivering high-level, safe, and quality snowsports instruction
  • Facilitating individual and group lessons, which includes, thoughtful student assessments, preparation of equipment and paperwork, greeting the participant(s), family members/caregivers, ensuring all safety protocols and policies are being enforced, wrapping up lessons with the completion of proper paperwork and equipment clean-up
  • Attending training/clinics as assigned by Program Director, both on hill and indoors
  • Assisting in the setup, inspection, maintenance, and storage of program equipment including documentation
  • Upholding risk management policies and procedures related to programs, notifying Program Director immediately of any incidents with participants or volunteers
  • Communicating efficiently and effectively daily with the Program Manager on any updates, concerns, or questions
  • Working closely with, and serve as an excellent example to a team of over 100 volunteer instructors
  • Assisting with on-site general operations, which may include daily set-up and clean-up tasks
  • Maintaining good relationships with DREAM community and business partners, especially Whitefish -Mountain Resort employees
  • Being a positive and professional representative of DREAM in our community
  • Complying with all DREAM policies and procedures
  • Adhering to DREAM values and culture
  • Participating fully as a member of DREAM
  • Taking on other duties and projects as identified

Qualified Applicants Must Possess

  • Advanced skiing or riding skills
  • A deep passion for outdoor recreation with the ability to work in an outdoor setting for long periods of time in all weather conditions
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and a desire to create an empowering, safe, and supportive environment
  • A current Level 1 PSIA/AASI instructor certification (or willingness to obtain in the first season). Level I -Adaptive or higher preferred
  • The ability to assist in the maintenance, repair (or willingness to learn), and documentation of adaptive equipment and facilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage risk, following all program policies
  • The ability to successfully work in a fast paced environment which often requires management of multiple high priority tasks
  • A high level of energy, enthusiasm, and initiative
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment
  • The ability to work flexible hours; schedule may include weekend work
  • The ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50lbs
  • The ability to clear a background check and pass Sport Protection training

Hourly Wage: $20.00-$30.00/hour depending on experience

Hours: Up to 40 hours/week, dependent on program schedule; may include weekend work. DREAM will work with the applicant on other part-time job commitments and schedule needs.
