Job summary

Cohere is seeking a Research Intern to collaborate with our researchers on designing and implementing novel ideas and shipping state-of-the-art models to production. You will work on base model training, retrieval augmented generation, evaluation, safety, and finetuning within a fast-growing AI startup.

The role requires pursuing a PhD in ML/NLP or a related field, with 4–6 month full-time availability. Remote-friendly with global offices, Cohere supports researchers across locations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in ML, NLP, AI or related discipline (exceptional non-PhD candidates welcomed).
• Eligible for work authorization in the country of employment.
• Experience with large-scale distributed training, data annotation and evaluation pipelines.
• Familiar with autoregressive sequence models such as Transformers.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of Python, C, C++, Lua, or related languages.
• Knowledge of ML frameworks such as JAX, PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Experience building systems based on ML and deep learning.
• Passion for applied NLP models and products.

Responsibilities

• Conduct cutting-edge machine learning research, building and training large language models.
• Focus on research projects expanding frontier of language modelling and related areas.
• Disseminate research results via publications, datasets, and code.
• Contribute to research initiatives with practical product applications.
