Job summary

Southern Champion Tray LLC is seeking a Window Machine Operator for the 2nd shift at our Chattanooga, TN plant. You will set up and operate window machines to produce finished products at a steady pace, following safety rules and production standards.

The role requires prior window machine experience, basic computer skills, and mechanical aptitude. You must be able to read and follow procedures, report data accurately, and work a 5-day schedule. Regular attendance is expected.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating a window machine, preferably in a folding carton environment.
  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software.
  • Must have mechanical ability and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machine(s) to ensure quality products at a consistent rate of speed.
  • Set up machine(s) in a consistent manner and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Make machine adjustments to maintain safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Check previous shift's report at start of each shift to determine run status.
  • Set up machine to precise measurements and alignments for next production run.
  • Log productivity and complete production reports; record production data.
  • Operate the machine safely and notify supervisor of unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain a clean 5S work environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Set up and operate machine(s) to insure that quality products are achieved at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and operate machine(s) in a consistent manner as instructed and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Able to make machine adjustments in order to maintain machine at safety, quality, and production standards
  • At the beginning of each shift, check previous shift's report to determine status of run
  • Set up machine to precise measurements and alignments within allotted time for next production run assuring a straight and smooth flow through the feed section
  • Use attachments and make adjustments to assure proper windowing and adjust the stacking section to assure the blanks are stacking uniformly
  • Uses computer system to log productivity and remarks on job, accurately completes production report, and record production data
  • Start equipment and adjust machine as required to attain target speeds
  • Be responsible for the quality of the product manufactured
  • Check for scrap and quality defects; continuously check for quality defects of finished product
  • Operate the machine in a safe manner and notify supervision of any unsafe conditions that might exist
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and assists in repair of machine malfunctions; performs routine cleaning, and maintenance
  • Maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans in accordance with our 5S system

AUTHORITY:Must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Experience operating a window machine, preferably in a folding carton environment. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts/moves 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job.
