Job summary

Georgia-Pacific LLC is seeking a Subject Matter Expert to join the Manufacturing Technical Group, providing technical expertise on winders, finishing end equipment, and associated processes across North America facilities.

The role collaborates with hourly and salaried personnel, mentors staff, supports asset improvement, installation, commissioning, and optimization, and plans outages to deliver reliable performance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge in paper-making equipment: finishing end equipment, winders, reels and/or roll handling.
• Able to read P&ID drawings, layout drawings, and mechanical drawings.
• Proven ability to lead, communicate with, and mentor others in a manufacturing environment.
• Willing and able to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Willing and able to work in environments with platforms/catwalks, elevated temperatures, and humidity.
• Willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays when needed.

Responsibilities

• Act as Change Agents with hourly and salaried personnel to identify improvement opportunities for processes, people and equipment.
• Coordinate and lead efforts to return asset performance to the optimized base case with third-party support and internal resources as needed.
• Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of new or upgraded assets.
• Assist asset owners in prioritizing lists of improvement opportunities for their respective assets based on business need.
• Work with other Subject Matter Experts, capability teams, and operations personnel to develop standardized operating and maintenance strategies for similar assets and equipment.
• Provide technical mentoring support for hourly, salaried engineering and operations personnel at local facilities and corporate team.
• Assist in planning outages with operations to ensure desired results.
• Apply SME knowledge to support short-term technical requests across multiple facilities.
• Support trials of new process technology and equipment and assess applicability with existing asset base.

Job description

Georgia-Pacific is recruiting a SME to join our Manufacturing Technical Group that is part of the corporate central capability group. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to a variety of winders and finishing assets across Georgia Pacific's North America facilities and will have a strong capability to work with both hourly and salary employees.

What You Will Do

• Act as Change Agents through partnerships with hourly and salaried personnel at production sites to identify improvement opportunities for processes, people and equipment
• Coordinate and lead efforts to return asset performance to the optimized base case with third-party support and internal resources as needed
• Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of new or upgraded assets
• Assist asset owners in managing and prioritizing lists of improvement opportunities for their respective assets based on business need
• Work with other Subject Matter Experts, capability teams, and operations personnel within Georgia Pacific to develop standardized operating and maintenance strategies for similar assets and equipment
• Provide technical and professional mentoring support for hourly, salaried engineering and operations personnel both at local facilities and within the corporate engineering team
• Assist in planning specific outage activities with operations teams to ensure that desired results are achieved
• Apply Subject Matter Expertise knowledge to support short-term technical requests across multiple facilities
• Support trials of new process technology and equipment and provide an assessment of applicability with an existing asset base

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Knowledge and experience in one or more specific paper-making equipment and process areas: Finishing end equipment, winders, reels and/or roll handling
• Able to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's), layout drawings, and mechanical drawings
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, communicate with, and mentor others in a manufacturing environment
• Willing and able to travel up to 75% of the time (project dependent)
• Willing and able to work in operating environments that include platforms and catwalks, elevated temperatures, and variable humidity levels
• Willing and able to work occasional weekends, nights, and holidays when needed

What Will Put You Ahead

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Pulp, and Paper Science, or a Technical degree
• Experience with paper machine applications
• Experience in working with SAP or similar ERP systems
• Experience in manufacturing leadership role(s) supporting paper-making operations
• Experience using PI ProcessBook or comparable data historian
• Previous work experience in a technical design or service capacity related to finishing equipment or paper making

For this role, we anticipate paying $130k - $180k per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
