Job summary

Sky Climber Renewables is seeking a TOP Wind Service Technician Level 1 in Idaho Falls, part of the TOP Wind Service Technician Development Program. You will receive GWO-accredited safety and technical training and work at local wind sites.

The role focuses on preventive and unscheduled maintenance of wind turbine equipment, with supervised growth toward independent responsibilities within Sky Climber’s service team.

Qualifications

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (Sky Climber does not provide sponsorships).
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle record check.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Successful completion of a climb preview prior to hire.
• Associate degree in a technical mechanical field, wind energy discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
• Mechanical or electrical background.
• Ability to read and interpret basic diagrams and wiring schematics.

Responsibilities

• Follow all assigned Environmental, Health and Safety procedures.
• Perform basic mechanical installations, maintenances, operations, and upgrades.
• Verify that the work is completed in compliance with customer’s requirements.
• Perform work based on established work procedures.
• Document all work performed.
• Report policy or procedure violation.
• Submit progress reports.
• Repair or replace parts.
• Possess knowledge about specific activity tools and be able to use them safely.
• Occasionally work independently on a component as part of an equipment maintenance project.
• Dismantle and assemble basic machinery, components, equipment, or tooling.
• Travel as required (up to 25%).
• Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.
• Ability and willingness to work at heights and in all weather conditions.
• Ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.

The Tech One Program (TOP) is a structured career development program for entry-level wind technicians, created through a partnership between industry leaders Sky Climber Renewables and Vestas Americas.

Position Overview

TOP Wind Service Technicians receive exclusive safety and technical training accredited through the Global Wind Organization (GWO). Technicians primarily work at a wind site location near home and operate as part of a service team to ensure safe and efficient wind turbine maintenance.

This position reports directly to the Program Manager and Site Manager, and indirectly to the Lead Technician during assignments.

Technicians are responsible for performing all preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine generator equipment safely and efficiently. This includes maintaining and repairing machinery or components used primarily in power generation applications such as turbines and generators.

Note: You are not certified to perform work inside any cabinet/controller without direct supervision from a certified Electrical Technician.

Additional duties may be assigned to support customer needs and to help advance Sky Climber’s mission, values, and long-term vision.

This is a full-time paid employment opportunity with all training provided upon hire, including:

• - Basic Safety Training (e.g., First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection)
• - Tower Safety Training (e.g., high-angle rescue or wind tower rescue)
• - Technical Training (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems)

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Physical Requirements

• - Ability to climb a 300+ ft. wind tower multiple times per day and work comfortably at height
• - Ability to walk across the hub and, in an emergency, rappel off
• - Comfortable working in confined spaces
• - Frequent climbing, walking, standing, and bending
• - Ability and willingness to repeatedly handle up to 50 lbs
• - Due to fall protection design parameters, the combined weight of the employee, required PPE, and gear must not exceed 300 lbs (PPE and gear may weigh up to 40 lbs)
