Job summary

MasTec, Inc. is seeking a Wind Turbine Technician to perform daily operations and maintenance on wind turbines across the US. The role involves extensive travel and working near turbines with a safety-first approach to get the job right the first time.

You will climb towers, diagnose issues, and service electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems while adhering to safety policies. A TWIC card, CDL preferred, and wind-energy experience are required or advantageous.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; must possess an active TWIC card
  • Technical 2- or 4-year wind energy degree or certificate preferred
  • Minimum two years' wind turbine experience or one year plus degree/cert
  • Ability to use basic power and hydraulic tools; valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
  • Read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics

Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all company safety policies and procedures
  • Climb wind towers and perform daily maintenance around turbines
  • Interact professionally with customers and coworkers
  • Install, inspect, operate and repair wind turbines
  • Diagnose issues to prevent unexpected shutdowns or failures
  • Test electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and troubleshoot malfunctions
  • Service substations, control systems and fiber optic sensing equipment
  • Replace worn components and carry out routine maintenance

Overview

This position is responsible for daily operations and maintenance of wind turbines. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the US. This person must have a safety first attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
  • Working in and around wind turbines Climb multiple wind towers on a daily basis
  • Ability to professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis
  • Demonstrate safety as a top priority Install, inspect, maintain, operate and repair wind turbines
  • Diagnose and fix any problem that could cause the turbine to be shut down unexpectedly or fail to operate properly
  • Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines
  • Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions
  • Service underground transmission systems, wind field substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems
  • Replace worn or malfunctioning components
  • Others duties as assigned
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent Must possess an active
  • Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain a TWIC Card
  • Technical 2 or 4-year degree or certificate wind energy or related preferred Minimum two (2) years' experience working in and around wind turbine, specifically for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, or one (1) years experience and degree or certificate
  • Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices / protocols including LOTO Experience using basic power and hydraulic toolsValid Driver's License (CDL Preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution
  • Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with Internet-based program navigation
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters in height
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
  • Able to maintain certifications required to perform the work, including but not limited to: First Aid / CPR, Tower Climb and Rescue, LOTO, Arc Flash, etc.
  • Comfort working remotely in a turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
  • Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to use hydraulic tension and torque tooling Knowledge of entering and exiting the rotor
  • This includes locking out the rotor. Knowledge of using the internal chain hoist
