Job summary

AVANGRID POWER, LLC seeks a Wind Turbine Engineer—Mechanical Systems to support our wind turbine and solar PV fleet. You will investigate mechanical issues, lead root-cause analyses, and coordinate with OEMs to drive reliable, high-performance equipment.

Requirements include a Mechanical Engineering degree and 3+ years in renewables, plus strong writing skills and CAD/FEA experience. In-office role in Portland, with travel up to 20% and field work.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Renewables.
• Demonstrated record of superior academic and professional performance.
• Possession of comprehensive writing skills.
• Working knowledge of office and engineering analysis programs.
• Familiarity with FEA, aeroelastic and CAD modeling programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Ansys, Flex, Bladed, etc.
• Familiarity with testing and measurement equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to take actions beyond the explicit job responsibilities to assist in large, complex projects.
• Must work well under pressure from job demands; multi-tasking essential.
• Ability to climb 100-meter-tall steel towers and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Flexibility to travel up to 20% of the time and work in the field.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME in mechanical systems issues and support Avangrid's operational fleet.
• Investigate anomalies and failures; perform inspections and analysis to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with external professionals and consultants as needed.
• Create and maintain technical summaries documenting progress and experience.
• Organize and lead meetings with OEMs and service providers to ensure quality and contractual compliance.
• Identify and propose engineering studies to improve reliability and performance; manage studies with internal and external resources.
• Evaluate design modifications proposed by OEMs and prepare technical summaries for decision making.
• Support operating fleet to ensure safe work environment and maximize availability.
• Visit plants and suppliers to investigate issues and support program deployments.
