The State of Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is recruiting for an on-site Wildlife Technician Lead in Big Sandy, TN. The role advances advanced wildlife conservation work and may involve supervising Wildlife Technician 1 staff in specialty areas such as habitat maintenance or hatchery operations.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years in wildlife conservation, plus a valid driver's license and possibly a CDL.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience equivalent to three years of full-time wildlife conservation, forestry, farming or related work.
  • Qualifying coursework at an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five or more years of working experience as a Wildlife Technician 1 with TWRA may be required for some positions.
  • Must have a valid Driver's license.
  • Some positions may require a current CDL license.

Responsibilities

  • Assume the supervisory role within the assigned work unit in the absence of a supervisor or manager.
  • Provide on-the-job training for newly hired personnel and volunteers, including safety precautions.
  • Determine appropriate conditions and quantities for use of hazardous materials.
  • Calibrate agency equipment such as scales, sprayer, meters, imagers and cameras.
  • Operate tractors and heavy equipment to maintain habitat and manipulation.
  • Conduct maintenance and repair of agency equipment.
  • Follow guidelines for forestry/wildlife surveys, sampling and nuisance control.
  • Coordinate forest/wildlife research and management programs; traps, tags, and inventories.
