Who you are:

You enjoy working outdoors and are interested in wildlife, forestry, and responsible forest management. You bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn new skills. You work well as part of a team, can take initiative when working independently, and are ready to take on new challenges.

What the job is:

This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to build experience in two natural resource disciplines: wildlife and forestry. From February through June, you will work with the wildlife team to conduct field surveys for raptors, including osprey, peregrine falcons, and mainly the Northern Spotted Owl. These surveys support timber harvest planning and operations under the California Forest Practice Rules. You will also assist with demographic studies required by Green Diamond's Forest Habitat Conservation Plan (FHCP) and conduct nighttime Northern Spotted Owl surveys.

From July through January, you will transition to the forestry team and support field layout for Timber Harvest Plans, reforestation activities, field inventories, and other forest management projects. Across both disciplines, you will help collect, enter, prepare, and maintain project data, gaining practical experience with the field and technical work that supports sustainable forest management.

What you bring:

A bachelor's degree in wildlife, forest management, natural resources, or a closely related field or equivalent relevant work experience is preferred for this role. Because the position is primarily field-based, you should be prepared to travel by four-wheel-drive vehicle or ATV and hike through challenging terrain and weather conditions. The ability to use GPS devices and maps, maintain strong situational awareness, and follow safe field practices is essential. Green Diamond will provide extensive training to help you perform the work safely and confidently. This is a full-time position with overtime and sometimes weekend work. Additionally, it requires you to possess a valid driver's license.

Work schedule:

A typical workday is 8 to 10 hours, depending on the location of the assignment. Although in the field you will often work near other team members, some assignments require you to work independently and take responsibility for following established safety procedures. Before you work alone, you will receive thorough training and demonstrate that you are prepared to perform the assignment safely.

Where you’ll work:

You will work on nearly 400,000 acres of Green Diamond's privately held forest property, located in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties along the Northern California coast. Our offices are nestled in the redwood forest near the Pacific Ocean - a truly breathtaking place to work!

Compensation:

Hourly wage is between $23.00 to $30.20. The pay range listed is just one part of Green Diamond's total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive an annual company-wide financial bonus and the opportunity to receive a bonus based on your personal performance.

In addition, Green Diamond offers a generous benefit package to include medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 personal holidays, 10 vacation days, 10 sick days, 30 days parental leave, 3 days bereavement, an extra 2-day bereavement unpaid, jury duty, 1 volunteer day, and 5 days family care. Also provided is a company vehicle for business use. More information about benefits can be viewed on our website: www.greendiamond.com/people/career-opportunities
