State of Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is seeking a Wildlife Technician Supervisor to oversee field staff in the Hammond Region, including Joyce, Manchac, Maurepas Swamp, and Tunica Hills WMAs. The role includes supervision, data collection for research, and participation in habitat management and compliance activities.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management, research or conservation; forestry; land management; agriculture; commercial fishery; environmental science; or operation of heavy mobile equipment.
• Ninety semester hours with eighteen hours in a biological, marine or environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management or research, agriculture, commercial fishery or forestry; OR
• A bachelor's degree in a biological, marine or environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management or research, agriculture, commercial fishery or forestry.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and performs daily operations primarily on WMAs within the region, and elsewhere as needed
• This position is expected to regularly travel to other WMAs within the region, possibly with overnight stay
• Supervises and participates in management activities including planting wildlife openings, moist soil management, conducting prescribed burns, boundary marking, and managed hunts
• Collects data used in establishing management or research programs and setting regulations. Participates in necessary construction and maintenance activities on Department buildings, grounds, roads, levees, equipment, camping areas, and water control structures
• Participates in lethal and nonlethal collection and sampling of wildlife species for management and research
• Transports injured or nuisance animals
• Performs Continuous Performance Management (CPM) processes, and ensures proper compliance with department policies and procedures of assigned staff
• Performs any other duties as directed and necessary for the agency to accomplish its mission
